Our Volunteers

Ordinary People. Extraordinary Commitment.
At Trent Blood Bikes, we have no paid staff. From the Chair of the charity to the rider battling through rain at 3:00 AM, everyone is a volunteer.

Our team is made up of men and women from all walks of life. By day, we are teachers, engineers, paramedics, mechanics, IT specialists, and retirees. But when the shift starts, we unite with a single purpose: to support our NHS and save lives.

We don’t do it for praise, and we certainly don’t do it for money. We do it because we care about our community.

The Roles We Play
It takes a village to keep a fleet like ours moving 24/7. Here are the people who make it happen:

🏍️ The Riders
The visible face of the charity. Our riders are not just enthusiasts; they are highly skilled operators trained to keep themselves and their precious cargo safe. To ensure professional standards, every rider must hold, at a minimum, a pass in the DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme. Many of our team also hold or work towards RoSPA and IAM advanced qualifications. Rain, shine, or snow, they are ready to roll.

🚗 The Drivers
Our unsung heroes of the winter months. When the temperature drops below freezing or the cargo is too large for a bike, our drivers step up. Undergoing rigorous driving skills assessments, they ensure that the service remains uninterrupted and safe, proving that you don’t need two wheels to be a blood runner.

🎧 The Controllers
The heartbeat of the operation. Working from home, often through the silent hours of the night, our controllers manage the logistics. They take urgent calls from hospitals, dispatch the nearest vehicle using our Artery tracking system, and ensure every rider gets home safely. They are the calm voice at the end of the radio.

💰 The Fundraisers & Support
The engine room. Without fuel, tyres, and insurance, our bikes go nowhere. Our fundraising team works tirelessly—standing in supermarkets with buckets, organising events, and securing corporate sponsorship to ensure we have the funds to answer the next emergency call.

Could You Be One of Us?
You don’t need to be a medical expert or a professional racer to join Trent Blood Bikes. You just need a cool head, a warm heart, and a few hours a month to spare.

Whether you want to ride, drive, dispatch, or shake a bucket, there is a place for you in the Trent Blood Bikes family.
